Pamidronate-induced tubulointerstitial nephritis with Fanconi syndrome in a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism.

چکیده
Pamidronate disodium (Aredia) is a member of the class of biphosphonates, widely used in the treatment of malignancy-associated osteolytic lesions and osteoporosis. At the recommended doses, renal toxicity of biphosphonates is very infrequent [1–3]. However, higher doses have produced nephrotoxicity in animal models [4,5]. More recently, the nephrotic syndrome with renal failure has also been reported in a few patients treated with pamidronate [6,7]. We describe a case of severe tubulointerstitial nephritis with Fanconi syndrome induced by intravenous pamidronate in a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism.

A Case of Kidney Involvement in Primary Sjögren’s Syndrome
BACKGROUND Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder caused by the infiltration of monocytes in epithelial glandular and extra-glandular tissues. Hallmark presentations include mouth and eye dryness. Although renal involvement is uncommon in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS), patients may experience renal tubular acidosis type I (RTA I), tubulointerstitial nephritis, diabetes insipidus (DI), ...

BACKGROUND Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome (TINU syndrome) is a diagnosis of exclusion based on the presence of uveitis and acute tubulointerstitial nephritis in the absence of other disease entities known to cause both of these disorders. The proximal tubule is frequently affected by this syndrome, resulting in a wide range of presentations that vary from proteinuria to full ...
متن کاملA case of severe osteomalacia caused by Tubulointerstitial nephritis with Fanconi syndrome in asymptomotic primary biliary cirrhosis
BACKGROUND Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is an immune-mediated chronic cholestatic liver disease, characterized by increased concentrations of serum IgM and the presence of circulating anti-mitochondrial antibodies. Although bone diseases such as osteoporosis or osteodystrophy are commonly associated with PBC, osteomalacia which is caused by abnormal vitamin D metabolism, mineralization defec...
متن کاملTubulointerstitial nephritis in primary Sjögren syndrome: clinical manifestations and response to treatment
BACKGROUND Primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) is a common autoimmune condition which primarily affects epithelial tissue, often including the kidney causing either tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN) or more rarely, an immune complex related glomerulonephritis. METHODS We describe the clinical, biochemical and histological characteristics of 12 patients with pSS related TIN and their response to t...
متن کاملRifampin-associated tubulointersititial nephritis and Fanconi syndrome presenting as hypokalemic paralysis
BACKGROUND Rifampin is one of the most important drugs in first-line therapies for tuberculosis. The renal toxicity of rifampin has been reported sporadically and acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN) is a frequent histological finding. We describe for the first time a case of ATIN and Fanconi syndrome presenting as hypokalemic paralysis, associated with the use of rifampin. CASE PRESENTA...
